Airtel Digital TV, the DTH arm of Bharti Airtel and Vedantu, an interactive online learning platform for students, today announced a collaboration under which, two dedicated DTH channels – Vedantu Materclasses – will be available exclusively to the 17 million Airtel Digital TV customers at an affordable cost of Rs. 4 per day.
The channels will serve students from Classes 6 to 10 and Classes 11 to 12 respectively and will cover Math and Science subjects. With the launch of these two channels, Airtel and Vedantu ‘want to make quality education available to students across India by taking support of the deep reach of Airtel’.
Moreover, the faculty for teaching includes graduates from IIT and AIIMS with proven track records in teaching. The medium of teaching will be a mixture of English and Hindi languages. The company also aims at adding regional language content, where possible. The company shares that it will provide 11 hours of fresh interactive content on a daily basis to the learning students. Students can also do the revision by playing the content again with repeat telecast. The classes will also offer interactive learning to students, for example, interactive quizzes to which students can respond to, using the TV remote.
Commenting on the collaboration, Sunil Taldar, CEO & Director – DTH Business, Bharti Airtel, said: “We are delighted to partner with Vedantu to democratise high-quality education by making it highly affordable and accessible through the home TV. The TV screen is evolving beyond entertainment to becoming a hub for interactive education and learning that can be delivered in a safe and affordable manner, especially in these unprecedented times. We are confident that this service will be well received by students and parents and education on TV will become a permanent feature which will benefit millions of students.”
With this, Airtel Digital TV will compete with rival Tata Sky Classroom initiative. The Classroom service is offered free of cost on channel 653. The service helps to understand and learn core concepts based on syllabus through animated story-led videos. The Tata Sky service serves students from Classes 5 to 8 and offers Math and Science teachings. It also provides educational games alongside animated learning videos.
