Apple is in talks with MediaTek and planning to launch a cheaper variant of its smart speaker. The source further reveals that the upcoming speaker will be launched under Beats branding, not with Apple’s name. The upcoming smart speaker from Apple may be priced around $199.

As per the report, Apple is about to launch a cheaper variant of its not-so-famous Apple HomePod. The Cupertino-based e-commerce giant is planning to launch a cheaper version of its smart speaker which will compete with the rivals of Google Home and Amazon Echo.

According to the report from anonymous sources, Apple is in talks with MediaTek and planning to launch a cheaper variant of its smart speaker. The source further reveals that the upcoming speaker will be launched under Beats branding, not with Apple’s name. The upcoming smart speaker from Apple may be priced around $199.

Apple is struggling with the HomePod smart speakers as it did not do well in the market and failed to seek much attention as compared to its rivals. A recent report from Strategy Analytics highlighted that Apple’s smart speaker accounted for only 6 percent market share, whereas Amazon Echo was the leader with 81.8 percent market share. This shows that Apple has a long way to go in this segment.

The reason for the failure is that its competitors like Google Home and Amazon Echo are offering smart speakers at almost half of the price of what Apple is charging for its HomePod smart speaker. For Apple, a cheaper variant of the HomePod is a must, if it wants to compete with its competitors in the smart speaker race.
