American tech giant Apple apologized last week for its handling of the degraded battery issue and offered cheaper battery replacement as well. Apple has lowered down the price of battery replacements to Rs. 2,000 (exclusive taxes). Earlier, this was costlier and users had to pay Rs. 6,500 for battery replacement for older iPhones. This new battery replacement program is for iPhone 6, iPhone 6s, iPhone SE, iPhone 7, and iPhone 7 Plus.
The Cupertino-based tech giant apologized after facing consumer outrage over intentionally slowing down older iPhones in the market. Apple said in a recent statement. “We’ve been hearing feedback from our customers about the way we handle performance for iPhones with older batteries. We know that some of you feel that we have let you down. We apologize.”
For any user with an iPhone 6 or later whose battery needs to be replaced, Apple has announced that it is reducing the price of an out-of-warranty iPhone battery replacement by $50 — from $79 to $29 —, starting in late January. Further, the company will provide an iOS software update with new features that will give users more visibility into the health of the iPhone’s battery, so can see if the battery problem is affecting the performance of the device.
