BSNL to start providing 4G and landline services in Delhi & Mumbai from January 1: Report

  • BSNL will soon introduce its 4G services in two metro cities: Delhi and Mumbai.
  • MTNL is the only telecom services provider in these two circles.
  • BSNL is expected to begin trials on behalf of MTNL for 5-6 months.

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is ready to provide 4G network and landline services in two metro cities: Delhi and Mumbai. Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited aims to provide both wireless and fixed lines in Mumbai and Delhi on behalf of MTNL initially on a trial basis for five to six months, starting from January 1, 2021, according to a report published in Business Standard.

Also, the BSNL is expected to launch its 4G services in the two metro cities. As per the esteemed daily, the PM’s office may examine the proof of concept before the 4G is launched by the telecom company. This process is expected to get completed by mid of the year 2021, post which the tender for sourcing of the telecom equipment will be floated.

BSNL has a great opportunity to expand its 4G network that unfortunately has not been able to compete with the private players. The first 4G network was launched by Airtel back in the year 2012, then Reliance Jio made the technology mainstream through its dirt-cheap tariffs. BSNL started its 4G services so late, which was launched in South-Indian circles. Since the two metro cities, Delhi and Mumbai circles have a huge fraction of 4G customers, BSNL has a great chance to create new revenue streams.
