Huami has recently announced the launch of its latest Amazon Alexa-powered smartwatch, Zepp Z in the US and Europe. This is Huami’s second smartwatch under the Zepp brand and third if the variants of the Zepp E watches count separately. The new smartwatch comes with a premium design and can be termed as a high-end version of the Amazfit GTR 2.
The Zepp Z has a titanium alloy frame and this is the same material which is used for the buttons and the clasp. As per Huami says, the frame is polished 5 times longer as compared to other smartwatches which further costs 4 times more. To give it a classic look, there are 22mm leather straps attached to the dial of the watch.
The Zepp Z has an AMOLED display of 1.39-inch and a 454 x 454 resolution which draws power from a 340mAh battery. With the help of Zepp app, users will be able to choose from up to 50 watch faces. The watch comes along with a lot of sensors including a SpO2 sensor for blood oxygen saturation detection, a 24 hour heart rate monitor, a geomagnetic sensor, a gyroscope, a barometer, an accelerometer and an ambient light sensor.
There are three buttons present on the watch. The top button which is a health button and can be customized to give quick access in order to measure heart rate, SpO2 level or stress level. As per Huami, an OTA update will enable this feature. To navigate the watch a Classic Crown is used. Users will be able to scroll through the menu and press it down to select an option. A built-in linear motor gives haptic feedback which can be customized further.
The new Zepp watch also has Amazon’s Alexa voice assistant just like the Amazfit GTR 2 and Amazfit GTS 2. Users will be able to call on the assistant with the help of a built-in microphone to set reminders, ask questions about the weather or to operate compatible smart home devices. The feature will not be available right out of the box but will be available via an OTA update. Also, there is an offline assistant which can support up to 58 voice commands.
The Zepp Z has GPS and GLONASS and is water-repellant up to 5ATM and also it can track a total of 12 professional sports modes. It comprises a PAI health assessment system too. The watch gives a battery life of up to 15 days if used more but it can be extended up to 30 days in basic usage. It can be connected via Bluetooth 5.0 and works with devices running on Android 5.0 or above and iOS 10.0 and above.
The Zepp Z will be available for $349 (approximately Rs. 25,800) and will go on sale in the US and Europe later this month. It can be purchased through the Zepp site and Amazon. Huami also stated that there will be an ECG version available in the future once approved by the regulatory bodies.
