Instagram users in select countries will now be able to search the platform using keywords and no hashtag is required and the Facebook-owned company said that the keyword search feature would initially be available in English in six countries, including the UK, US, Ireland and Canada.
The company said in media reports on Tuesday that the search was limited to general interest topics and keywords, according to Instagram’s community guidelines.
Instagram also announced expanding the guides to everyone to make it easier to find, curate and share products, places and posts that people like from their favourite accounts.
Users can find guides on profiles and share them in stories in direct messages (DMs).
“Product guides can be shown in our new Shopping Destination Instagram shop in the Instagram app, so you can search for new products from people you may not already follow”, the company announced.
Facebook announced two major changes on Instagram last week in the form of the Reels tab and the Shop tab. The Reels tab will make it easier for people to search for short, funny videos from creators around the world. With reels, one can record and edit 15-second multi-clip videos with audio, effects and new creative tools. The Shop tab will give them a better way to connect with brands and creators and discover the products they love.
