Since Reliance Jio announced that it has collaborated with Google to launch an ‘affordable’ Android-powered smartphone in India very soon, till then followers and tech lovers are curiously waiting for when the company will roll out its upcoming budget-friendly smartphone in the country.
However, if the reports are to be trusted, then the wait is likely to over soon as Jio will roll out its upcoming low-cost Android cell phone soon. As per a report by India Today, the smartphone is likely to be launched in the first quarter of the year 2021.
The report stated sources saying that the smartphone will not be rolled out in December because it is still in the trial phase and will take around 3 months to make its debut in the Indian market. The report also claimed that Jio will manufacture around 10 crores of such low-cost cell phones in India.
Back in July, Mukesh Ambani, Reliance Chief Executive Officer (CEO), announced that Reliance Industries collaborated with Google to develop a custom Android-based operating system — alongside bringing an entry-level affordable cell phone for 4G customers in India with Google Play store support.
“We believe we can design an entry-level 4G or even 5G smartphone for a fraction of its current cost. To power such a value-engineered smartphone, we also need an equally value-engineered operating system, and such an operating system must be designed from the ground-up,” Mukesh Ambani had said in the Annual General Meeting this year.
Media reports suggest that the company is intensely looking to create that smartphone in India and asked local manufacturers in the country to gear up the production. Talking about its price, the smartphone will carry a price tag of Rs. 4,000 in India.
