MediaTek launched its Dimensity 800U mid-range 5G SoC back in August and it fuels several 5G smartphones in China. At the India Mobile Congress 2020, the SoC was announced for the Indian market and the company confirmed that the first phone fueled by the Dimesnity 800U processor will be launched in January 2021. This is expected to be the realme X7 5G that is likely to be rolling out in the country next month.
Mediatek said that it wants to amplify the 5G rollout in India by bringing dual 5G SIM support to mid-range 5G smartphones. The chipset is capable of delivering great multi-core performance.
The chip supports 5G+5G dual SIM dual standby, dual Voice over New Radio, and 5G two-carrier aggregation. With the MediaTek 5G UltraSave technology, the modem’s operating mode is managed based on the data transmission quality and network environment, extending the battery life of mobile devices.
The chipset has 2 high-performance Arm Cortex-A76 cores at 2.4GHz, and six 2GHz Arm Cortex-A55 cores, and Arm Mali-G57 GPU, which the company claims is 11% faster CPU & 28% faster GPU compared to Dimensity 700 series. It provides support for 120Hz FHD plus displays, HDR10 plus standard for enhanced visual quality, plus the integrated MediaTek MiraVision PQ engine with HDR optimization for several types of videos.
