India is the emerging and second largest smartphone market in the world, Samsung, Apple and other Chinese smartphone companies such as Xiaomi, Vivo, Oppo and OnePlus’s dominance on India’s mobile market. It has been a tough year for smartphone brands in India. However, now smartphone brands are back on track and recorded 53 million sales in Q3 2020. The report by Counterpoint also disclosed that Samsung is now the number one brand in India and has beaten Xiaomi in the rankings.
After a span of 2 years, Samsung is back on top and occupies a 24% market share in India. The South Korean brand was also the fastest “to recover, surpassing the pre-COVID levels in Q3 2020”, as per Counterpoint,
Xiaomi, as per Counterpoint, falls to the second position for the first time since Q3 2018. Due to Supply chain issues and manufacturing constraints resulting from Covid-19, it is the number 2 brand in the country.
Vivo is ranking in the third position holding about 17% market share in the country. The Chinese brand’s Y-series of smartphones have seen remarkable success, as per Counterpoint.
With nearly 16% market share, Realme is at the fourth spot in the rankings. The Narzo series and C-series of phones have contributed very well to the brand’s growth, according to Counterpoint.
Oppo holds an 8% market share and is at number fifth spot in the Indian smartphone rankings.

Coming to the affordable premium segment, it is the OnePlus that is the unbeaten brand and market leader, courtesy of strong sales of the OnePlus 8, as per Counterpoint Research.
