Nubia is working on a device with an electrochromic glass back

We have seen a lot of mobile phones this year with innovative and unique concepts which were launched by some of the major brands including OnePlus and Oppo. Now, ZTE’s Nubia is also working on a device with a similar idea to that of the OnePlus Concept One phone which had an electrochromic glass which could make the camera glass translucent.

The Chinese microblogging site, Weibo has posted a video where Nubia has displayed a Red Magic phone which can show the interior of the device with the touch of a button. This video was first observed by MySmartPrice

There are two transparent strips at the back of the Nubia Red Magic which shows the interiors of the device with the touch of a button. When you do another click, the two strips darken and hide the internals once again.

As of now, it is unclear whether the device will make it to mass production or it is just a concept device. There is a similar device by OnePlus back in January which displayed the similar technology but it was just on a much smaller part of the device. Just the camera glass was included but it also helped in other areas of the device like allowing better exposure control while capturing the pictures with the rear camera.

This year, in September, Vivo has also showcased a similar theory with colour changing technology of the back panel.

According to the Digital Chat Station, another tipster on Weibo posted that Oppo is also exploring the same technology and should be doing mass production by next year. It indicates that we may see some more devices with the same technology in 2021 which will be released for the general public.
