Oppo is currently working on some really interesting and attractive smartphone designs. Recently, the company displayed its first ever rollable smartphone. Also, the company has recently filed a patent for a smartphone with a removable camera module set up.
Spotted by 91Mobiles on World Intellectual Property Office, the patent application included images and descriptions regarding the functioning of the smartphone. The images indicated the focus at the back panel of the phone with a regular appearing camera module. The eye appealing thing about the image is that the camera can be removed and mounted on the base or top of the phone via USB Type-C port.
Another image revealed that the camera module has a USB Type-C connector and can bend at two angles i.e. 90-degrees and 180-degrees. The rollable design is likely to allow the camera to take photos in multiple angles which is similar to the motorised camera module on the Asus 6Z.
Moreover, the patent revealed that the camera module can also bear a Lithium battery and be charged whenever needed. As expected, it might also add support for wireless connectivity including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and NFC.
It is not necessary for patents to turn into a commercial product. The concept of a removable camera is definitely an interesting concept but it will be more interesting to see how this technology is implemented. This modular design was around for quite some time but was not taken even after the efforts of LG and Motorola.
Till now, Oppo has shown the X 2021 concept smartphone with a rollable screen. The phone has a variable rollable OLED display which utilizes the company’s own Roll Motor powertrain in order to expand from a 6.7-inch canvas to a 7.4-inch phablet.
