India’s largest mobile operator Reliance Jio and US-based Qualcomm have joined hands in order to develop an indigenous 5G network and services in India.
This tie-up has placed India in the exclusive club of nations with superfast Internet with 1Gigabyte speed per second. Jio and Qualcomm announced that they were successful in achieving 1Gbps in the Jio 5GNR solution. This achievement is not only at par with Jio’s 5G credentials but also marks the entry of Jio and India into the Gigabit 5G NR product portfolio.
This tie-up will hugely impact the digital experience in the Indian subcontinent. Once the 5G is rolled out on Jio, users can achieve a speed of up to 1gbps. Currently, Jio has more than 40 crore subscribers in India. Since its arrival in 2016, Jio has managed to make space in the household of the majority of Indians because of its affordability.
After bringing a revolutionary change in the digital scenario of India, the latest deal is going to be another pioneering step for the future of Jio in the country. Currently, only a few countries like the US, South Korea, Australia, Switzerland and Germany have 5G enabled network. Indian govt. is yet to allot spectrum of 5G which is expected to auction in 2021 and Jio is all set to deploy its network in the same year according to Chairman Mukesh Ambani.
Many smartphone companies are launching 5G ready phones in order to cope with the advancement in the digital scenario which is either in the premium or ultra-premium segment. Jio in association with Google is developing affordable 4G and 5G android phones which can be accessed by millions of Indians without them relying on the made-in-China phones.
