Sony Electronics launches FX6 full-frame professional camera with 4K video recording support

Sony announces a new cinema camera named Sony FX6.

Sony FX6 includes an S-Cinetone look profile to deliver footage with rich colors.

It also features a 10.2MP full-frame CMOS Exmor R image sensor.

Japanese multinational electronics company Sony has announced the FX6 (model ILME-FX6V) camera that is a new arrival in the company’s Cinema Line, a series of products that brings the company’s expertise in imaging technology to a broad range of content creators and filmmakers. The new Sony FX6 is a full-frame cinema camera which boasts 4K video recording capabilities.

Before discussing its technical specifications and features, let’s take a look at what the company claimed about this, “As part of the Cinema Line, the all-new FX6 incorporates Sony’s core technologies of image sensor, processing engine, and AF (autofocus) performance. FX6 is also compatible with the wide range of Sony E-mount lenses for creative flexibility.”

Sony FX6: Technical Specifications

*The Sony FX6 is equipped with a 10.2-megapixel full-frame CMOS Exmor R sensor powered by a BIONZ XR image processing engine. The latest cinema camera offers a maximum ISO of 409,600 for low-light shooting and comes with 15 plus stops of dynamic range.

*The Sony FX6 boasts a 627-point fast hybrid AF system that is found in the FX9 and Sony’s Alpha mirrorless cameras. The camera includes advanced face detection and real-time Eye AF. 

*For the video capture, the FX6 camera is capable of recording 10-bit 4:2:2 4K footage at 120fps and 1080 footage at 240 fps. 

*The company has included the S-Cinetone look profile in the FX6 cinema camera to make sure that the mid-range colors are rich and the overall footage delivers a filmic look and feel.

*The FX6 is compact, made of a magnesium alloy, and weighs around 890 grams. The FX6 features a 3.5-inch LCD viewfinder that can be attached to multiple locations on the body.

*The new camera equips a heat-dissipating structure to keep the camera’s components within their normal operating ranges to prevent overheating, even during extended recording times.

Sony FX6: Pricing and Availability

The Sony FX6 full-frame cinema camera has been announced for the entire global market. The FX6 will be available in North America from December 2020 for $6,000 (approximately Rs. 4,44,807).The pricing details and availability of the Sony FX6 in the Indian photography market are yet to be known.
