As per the June’s TRAI data, Vodafone Idea Ltd (VIL) and Airtel lost approx. 48.2 lakh and 11.3 lakh users respectively in the month of June whereas rival Reliance Jio added nearly approx. 45 lakh users which led into strengthening its hold in the mobile telephony market. According to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India’s (TRAI) monthly subscription data, India’s overall wireless subscriber base reduced by 0.28 per cent to 114 crore recording declines in both urban and rural areas at the end of June 2020.
As per the data, monthly downfall rates of urban and rural mobile subscription were 0.18 percent and 0.40 percent respectively. In total wireless user base, the share of urban and rural mobile subscribers were at 54.3 percent and 45.7 percent respectively by the end of June.
Adding further, all the operators lost their mobile subscribers in the month of June apart from Reliance Jio which is India’s youngest now the largest telecom. During June month, Jio hiked with 44.9 lakh subscribers taking its wireless customer base to 39.7 crore.
In the month of June, Bharti Airtel lost approx. 11.3 lakh users in the mobile category and its subscriber base was left with 31.6 crore subscribers. The subscriber base of Bharti Airtel included Tata Teleservices also. Vodafone Idea Ltd subscriber base fell by 48.2 lakh during the month of June to 30.5 crore. The total number of broadband subscribers increased from 68.3 crore at the end of May to 69.8 crore at the end of June with a growth rate of nearly 2 percent in India.
At the end of June, top five service providers comprised with 98.93 percent market share of the total broadband subscribers as per TRAI and these service providers were Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd with 398.31 million, Bharti Airtel with 151.30 million, Vodafone Idea with 116.45 million and BSNL with 23 million subscribers.
