WhatsApp will stop working for some iPhones and will also select Android smartphones starting from 1 January 2021. This piece of news should worry all WhatsApp users around the world, but we only suggest you to calm down. This is because WhatsApp support for smartphones running on the old operating system (OS) is ending. Some reports doing the rounds on the internet suggest that iPhones with OS older than Android 4.0.3 will not support iOS older than iOS 9 and Android phones running Android.
What can you do?
Those who are still using these phones can either choose a new smartphone or update their mobile operating system. If users have phones that are no longer compatible with WhatsApp, they must backup their chats before 1 January 2021 if they wish to keep them.
Here’s how to update WhatsApp:
Please note that if you have received a message that is not supported by your version of WhatsApp, then you will need to update WhatsApp. We always encourage you to use the latest version of WhatsApp. The latest versions have the latest features and bug fixes.
Android: Go to Google Play Store and search WhatsApp. Tap Update next to WhatsApp Messenger.
iPhone: Go to the App Store and search WhatsApp. Tap UPDATE next to WhatsApp Messenger.
The decision to end support for these models should not be a problem for you as most iPhones and Android phones currently run on the new operating system. However, if you are still using a smartphone running on the old operating system, WhatsApp recommends upgrading the mobile device before the service is interrupted.
WhatsApp support ends for these iPhones, Android phones
iPhones running on iOS 9 OS or later and Android phones running Android 4.0.3 and newer will stop supporting WhatsApp from 1 January 2021. This means that all iPhone models up to iPhone 4 will lose support for the messaging platform in the next few days. IPhone models include the iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPhone 5S, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6S. If your iPhone runs on an older operating system, be sure to update the mobile device now. For Android, WhatsApp will stop working on smartphones running Android versions older than 4.0.3. Well, this should not worry you much because many Android devices do not run on such old software right now. Some Android phones that are still running on older OS include HTC Desire, LG Optimus Black, Motorola Droid Razr and Samsung Galaxy S2. Users should make sure to upgrade their smartphone to the latest operating system to use the messaging app and enjoy connecting with loved ones.
How to check my phone’s OS?
This is easy. You can check which operating system your mobile phone is running on. Android users can go to Settings, then about the phone to see which Android version their smartphone is running.
